Case Study
Customer: BWXT - Barberton, Ohio (USA) Product: Custom Turnkey Package - Advent Process: Thick Section Narrow Groove Hot Wire TIG Engineering Sector: Defence
BWXT in Barberton Ohio required 2 complex system to perform Thick-Section Narrow Grove Hot Wire welding on critical components for US Navy applications.
The system included integrated data acquisition to sample and record data at 10,000 samples per second per channel. AMET also provided a redundant data acquisition system to record and analyze data. The system included "Virtual Centering" which compensated for deviations between the placement of the weld fixturing and the weld joint.
An AMET scanning laser with adaptive control software is utilized to measure the root gap on the thick section joints and adaptively control the weld current to compensate for the varying gap. The system provides for multiple operator consoles with live video to view the process and multiple pendants to override the process if desired. The "What's New" section of the site has the poster that was presented at the 2005 Trends in Welding Conference.
The poster titled "AMET Advanced Welding Control and Monitoring Systems Developed for Thick Section Narrow Groove Welding" received first prize. |
