GKN in St. Louis, Missouri, USA recieved this AMET Advent TIG sinusoidal seam welding system.
Complex turn-key system with integrated photo-diode sensing and adaptive penetration and torch coordinated motion.
Titanium thin-section caps are clamped above and below varying geometry sinusoidal panes, also thin-section Titanium. Dual photo diode sensors travel on each side of the pane, below the upper cap. The feedback from the photo diodes is used to coordinate motion on the Torch X, and Y axis. Therefore the controller adaptively follows the sinusoidal path of the pane, the Operator only programs the forward velocity.
Due to tapering thicknesses in the caps, the photo diode feedback is also simultaneously adaptively controlling the current pulsation frequency to maintain a fixed penetration.
These adaptive controls are necessary to support varying cap and pane geometries, and thicknesses.
